The current percentage of immigrants in Canada is the largest recorded since Confederation. From the report, 23% of the country, or over 8.3 million people, were either landed immigrants or permanent residents. This proportion is claimed to be the highest among the G7 countries.

According to the census data, a quarter of all the people in Canada in 2021 were immigrants. The latest census data projects immigrants to make up a third of the country’s population by 2041.

Based on this record, Become a Canadian concluded that Canada is, without a doubt, an accommodating country for people from all walks of life.

"Over 8.3 million people, were either landed immigrants or permanent residents. This proportion is claimed to be the highest among the G7 countries.'

Immigration – A Major Factor for Population Growth in Canada

The major factor responsible for the population growth in Canada is immigration, said Statistics Canada. Normally, there is meant to be a decline in population in the country at the moment. This is because of the country’s current aging population and low fertility rates.

Due to the impending decline in population, the federal government of Canada has been making a great commitment to allowing the entry of newcomers. The plan for this year was to welcome 431,645 immigrants into the country.

Become a Canadian stated that with the newcomers lies the opportunity to fill the labour shortages in Canada.

The Strategy for Growth in Canada

The Canadian Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, stated that the country had embraced immigration as a growth strategy. Little wonder why immigrants reportedly accounted for four out of five new workers in the country’s labour force between 2016 and 2021.
